Creative Writing Prizes

Each year, the program in Creative Writing offers several writing prizes to outstanding graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of English.

The Robert S. Newton Awards in creative writing are given each April to those students who have produced the best pieces of fiction and poetry in creative writing workshops during the prior academic year. Nominations and selections for the Newton Awards are made by the creative writing faculty.

The Creative Writing Award in Non-fiction is given each April to the student who has produced the best work of non-fiction in a creative writing workshop during the prior academic year. The winning piece must be nominated by a member of the creative writing faculty, and the winner is selected by the creative writing faculty.

The Stephan Ross Huffman Memorial Poetry Award is given each year to an undergraduate for a single poem. the winner is selected by a panel of three professors from diverse disciplines across the university.
