Major Requirements

Texas Tech University has offered a specialization in technical communication since 1976. In 2007, the Bachelor of Arts in Technical Communication (BATC) was approved and TTU became one of a select group of schools to offer the major at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Goals of the Major

Studying technical communication helps students with two broad goals:

1. Prepare for a career in technical communication

Money magazine ranked the career of technical communicator 18 out of 100 (March 1994).

The median salary for entry-level writers in 1998 was $36,870 (STC 1999 Salary Survey).

2. Prepare for writing in various professions

Technical communication courses emphasize writing, thinking, and problem solving--good preparation for law, business, and other professions.
